Max Schmeling was a German boxer and was part of two of the biggest boxing matches in history. In preperation for the first fight Max studied Joe Louis's previous fights to figure out his weaknesses and to figure out what moves made him lose his guard. After he won the first match, there was a rematch in 1938.
In the second round Max unfortunately lost due to a first round knock-out. After his first round knock-out he became a German Paratrooper in WWII, but was sadly injured later in the invasion of Crete in 1941. Max later returned to boxing in around 1947-1948.
In 1961, on an episode of, This is Your Life, Max Schmeling came all the way from Germany to meet Joe Louis For the first time in a very long time. Max explained how he won the first fight, Joe Louis told how how he had the first round KO on Max Schmeling. After that they became friends and became a lifelong friendship.
